History of Novomatic
Novomatic is an Austrian company that provides its gaming services to casinos across Europe. Surprisingly this company has been a part of the gaming industry since 1980 with over 70 countries relying on its physical products for their casinos.
Since then, it has made the transition to the online world. Johann F. Graf was the man who began importing pinball machines from Belgium into Austria and it was he who developed the company. From the start, the purpose was to create and sell game machines to land-based casinos, but over time this has changed and the company adapted to the more technological needs that now abound.
Graf still owns most of the company even today, and now has under him over 19,000 staff members spread across the globe. As of 2012, the company was making an annual turnover of 3.2 billion euros.
Physical Gaming Machines and Sportsbetting
Novomatic’s online software is mostly utilised in Europe, as are its physical gaming machines. It has also branched out and incorporates sport betting into a large part of its products, though this is still only available to those who reside in Austria and Romania.
Over the years the company continued to make a number of acquisitions, one of which was Astra Games in 2004. This enabled Novomatic to be able to gain a foothold in the UK.
In 2011 the company determined to match their success in the physical machine world and move it to success in the online one. In order to do this, they took over Greentube Internet Entertainment Solutions along with a number of staff with expert knowledge in the area. Since then they have enjoyed similar success in the online world.
What games does Novomatic offer?
Novomatic has a small but comprehensive library of games. At this time, they offer about forty different slots in a range of options. These slots can be found in the classic three-reel version, multiple payline video slots and also interesting twenty-five reel slots as well.
There aren’t really any progressive slots available but there are still big wins to be had with a number of the slots offering payouts between 2,500.00 and 100,000.00 depending on the bet size that was used for the spin.
Most of their slots do come with the addition of a gamble feature, which does allow players to potentially gain a few extra small wins along the way.
The Novomatic slots also tend to feature excellent free spins bonuses, which also add to the winning potential of some of these slots. They are also constantly updating their slots and trying to make them better so players would be well to check out the deluxe version of a number of the Novomatic slots over trying out the original one.
Novomatic’s Jackpot Edition 1
Novomatic also offers what they call game mixes. These are games designed to be used in a brick and mortar casino floor, and tend to mix games together in order to create a jackpot. Interactive Jackpot Edition 1, for example, contains treasure chests, spinning wheels and a number of prizes to be found throughout – all in pursuit of the top jackpot.
There are also a number of electronic or virtual table games available from this provider as well. On offer in this format are Blackjack, Sic Bo, Roulette, Baccarat and poker. These are all featured in physical casinos rather than online however and allow multiple players to attend the same game.
These terminals allow players to choose a number of options whilst in the casino environment. That being said, they do offer a couple of virtual table games for their online sites as well, in the form of baccarat and roulette.
Most popular slots from Novomatic
Book of Ra
Book of Ra is one of the favoured Novomatic slots. It is highly popular and was originally used in brick and mortar casinos before making the transition to the online platform. In fact, it is one of the few to successfully make this jump, and that is all thanks to Novomatic’s excellent gaming style.
It is a simple game really but looks excellent and plays smoothly thus bringing up its rating rather dramatically. It offers players five reels with just ten paylines and is based, as the name suggests, on Egyptian exploration and archaeology.
The theme is evident throughout the game with hieroglyphs covering the reel frame and the lower value card symbols all designed in a similar style.
There are not many bonus features, in fact just one in the form of free spins. These will be awarded at ten a piece when triggered by three scatter icons landing on the reels. There is also an expanding symbol, which will be activated at the same time and if part of a combo can cover the entire reels for a truly epic payout.
As previously mentioned, there is a gamble feature usually present on Novomatic slots and Book of Ra is no exception.
Novomatic and free spins
Novomatic offers a number of free spins from its software. Novomatic are actually renowned for offering more of these types of bonuses than any other company. They offer free spin software for non-commercial purposes, but also for no deposit offers in conjunction with new players signing up to a casino that has Novomatic software.
The different casinos will offer different bonuses though, there is no standard across the board so spins offered can range from 20 through to 120. The slots that these spins can be played on will vary between casinos though often Book of Ra is the slot offered for a free spin trial which is great for new players as it is one of the company’s better slot games.
Overall, Novomatic is doing extremely well both on and offline. Its offline business has been going for significantly longer and as such does appear to take priority when games are developed. However, the few slots that are on offer online are excellent and feature good graphics, interesting plays and great bonus features all of which are more than enough to keep players happy.
